Action from the Lancashire Combination Division One match played at Thurston Road on the 17th October 1964.
Chorley completed an expected double over their neighbours, with a 3-2 victory but they did make hard work of it. In a game that contained plenty of "derby" spirit but was almost completely devoid of skilful football, Chorley failed to make the most of their chances.
Chorley were the better equipped side all round but they found it difficult to overcome a hard tackling home side who showed plenty of enthusiasm but little skill. Leyland took a shock lead after 8 minutes, with a goal by Robinson (B) and could have added a second when ex-Magpie Brian Jump making his debut hit the ball over the bar when clean through.
Following three successive corners, Dalton headed home the equaliser after 33 minutes, and 10 minutes later Chorley went ahead courtesy of a Morley goal.
Four minutes into the second half Chorley went further in front with a goal from Cunliffe. Leyland reduced the lead with a Prescott goal after 65 minutes, but Chorley hung on to take the points.
